Saint James Church, Holetown, Saint James

Standing on one of the oldest parcels of consecrated land in Barbados, Saint James is often called "God's Acre".  The land that the church is build on is as famous as the church, as it is where the first place of worship was built when the British Settlers arrived in Barbados in 1627, and where settlers and noted Barbadians are laid to rest.  Saint James has it's original font, which is over 300 years old and has an inscription of 1684.

Beaches

Paynes Bay:

Just a 2 minute walk to the end of the road will find you on the breath-taking Paynes Bay beach, known as the "platinum coast" of Barbados, for its golden, soft sandy beaches, turquoise sea and shady palm trees. The water is very safe and calm so is ideal for all water sports  or for swimming.

Sunbathing is glorious on Paynes Bay.  Beach chairs are available to rent and there are shaded areas to retreat to when it's too hot. For those who would love to try horse-riding on the beach stables are close by.

Don't forget to try the rum punch while you chill out, unwind and admire the views, and enjoy the delicious local fish, which can be taken back to the villa, if all that sun, sea and sand has whipped up your appetite!

It is recommended that you take a walk along the coast where you will be enchanted by calm waters, magical flying fish and other nearby beaches such as Sandy Lane and Good Shepherds.

Horse riding

The West Coast of Barbados is ideal for horse riding, especially along the stunning Paynes Bay Beach.

In addition to the preperation advice given above, ensure you inform the guide of your ability and experience level so that you can be matched with an appropriate pony/horse and the appropriate guidance level given during your experience.  Riding therapy is available for those less able bodied, but ensure you check with the riding company before booking.

Note that you cannot wear flipflops/slippers to ride, and it is advised that you wear loose-fitting clothing and long trousers - comfort is the paramount for a good experience.
